Are you a ringer and would you like to visit?

St. Mary's bells are not generally available for peals due to the residential town centre location of the church. Visiting ringers are always welcome to join us for service ringing and on practice nights. If you are a group of ringers ariving en-masse please contact the secretary to advise us of your intention to visit. Forwarned is forarmed and gives us a chance to have a quick glance through "Diagrams".

On practice nights, we generally ring a mixture of rounds, call changes and method. Methods can range from Plain Bob and Grandsire doubles to Stedman triples on a good night. With the help of a couple of visitors we might even chance a try at Kent or Cambridge...

On Sundays we tend to ring whatever will sound best.

Would visitors coming on practice nights please note that the church is kept locked. There is an entryphone by the Vestry door in the north transept. This is the "red telephone" to the ringing chamber.

About the bells

The oldest bell in the tower of St. Mary's Church dates from 1612. Details of all of the bells and their inscriptions may be found here. Alternatively, see here for a plain text version.

Please see also "A short history of bells and bellringing at St. Mary's Church Aylesbury", written by John S. White. A printed version of this short hoistory is available to visitors to St Mary's Church. A small donation for the printed version is apreciated. If you read and enjoy the on line version, please send us some email.
