Unicycling from London to Cambridge or... "Gears Are For Wimps!" Sunday 25th July 1999 The annual London to Cambridge cycle ride was joined by CCC and friends this year, raising money for breast cancer research and the Community Circus. Each stint between official rest stops was completed by a pair, with one riding a unicycle and the other on a standard bicycle. We also had three support drivers, one driving a van complete with toolkits, spare unicycles and lots of drinking water! Participating were Claire Durant, Rob Lister, Stuart Swift, Mark Rushton, Helen Coutts, Dizzy Manning and Sam Thornely. Charlie Hull drove the support van, Mark Tillotson and Ian George drove unicyclists between the rest points. The last leg from Addenbrookes Hospital to Midsummer Common was completed by all the unicyclists together (including one on a giraffe!). Thanks to Barry Gates for the loan of a 36" Coker unicycle and to friends and family for their support. Below are some photographs of the event - you can see all the photographs here as well as a short movie. The finish was covered by Anglia Television and the Cambridge Evening News and Claire Durant was interviewed en route by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. Here are some rough timings. The course is approximately 58 miles long.
