Editor's Note

First off -- Happy New Year everyone!

Hope you like the new look of the newsletter. Print it. Distribute it.

For those who haven't been aware, a whole bunch of stuff happened at the last AGM, the previous committee stood down and a new committee was elected. In fact, CCC as a limited company was formally dissolved and a new organisation emerged under the same name with the intention of becoming a charity. In addition, we lost the invaluable services of Gill as our dedicated administrator.

To enable the group to carry on without a dedicated administrator the new committee put our heads together and split the operation in a number of roles. The idea being that people could pick up a role distribute the load out. Here's what we came up with:

New Committee and Roles
  • Chairman & Workshop Coordinator - Mark Rushton
  • Secretary & Publicity - Simon Hammond
  • Treasurer - Mark Tillotson
  • General Member - Stuart Swift
  • Junior Members - Claire Durant & Helen Coutts
This is still a fair bit on few heads, so if you fancy picking up a minor role then have a talk to any of the committee. As an incentive you get an email of the form below:

chairman@camcircus.org
workshops@camcircus.org
trapeze@camcircus.org
teamaster@camcircus.org
[Hi Joe!]

This leads rather nicely onto a mention of the website. Basically, we grabbed the domain name (i.e. the web address) camcircus.org
The old web address (utter.chaos.org.uk/ccc/) still works. In fact the new address simply points to the same place, but it's a lot easier to remember and better for promotion. I'll be carrying on Charlie's good work by keeping it updated and fresh looking.

Also, we can give out snappy e-mail addresses to members in the form whomever@camcircus.org. Nice for conventions (if you haven't got a juggler.net) and another incentive to make sure you're up-to-date with your membership.

Claire has asked me to relay this message:
"THANK YOU to everyone who helped to put togther and had the idea for my ultimate wheel, its fantastic, i have spent many happy hours on it so far (although i am not sure my knees agree!)and it served as a wonderful distractor task from my exams- Thanks again, Claire:-)"

Finally, it occurred to me recently that I have been living in Cambridge and coming to CCC for just over a year now. At the risk of sounding gushy I would simply like to say that 2000 was a great year for me, and the friendly, interesting people of CCC (i.e. you lot) were a great part of that. Thank you. I'm sure 2001 is going to be another top year for Cambridge Community Circus.

And I can't wait.

Simon

Community Show 2001

The Community Show is starting to gather momentum for the big weekend of 7-8th April. We've roped in some very promising acts so far but we always need more help. If you fancy contributing, even just a few hours of your time, or you want a sneak preview of what it's going to be like then get on the show mailing list (camcircus_show-subscribe@yahoogroups.co) Or turn up at a progress meeting (ask me!).

Roger Thornely

No doubt most of you will have heard the sad news last year. In case you had not, here is an excerpt from an e-mail by Charlie:

I'm sad to announce that our dear friend Roger Thornely died on 13th November after a long illness.

Roger had been active in the Cambridge Community Circus from the beginning; he was on the original committee who set up the organisation and was involved in shows and workshops for many years. Some of you may remember him careering across the stage of the Corn Exchange on a Chinese stunt bike in the 'Whitesnake' project; learning to unicycle before his 60th birthday (just!); juggling and devilsticking on Sundays and further afield many of you would have met him on the door of many a city theatre production.

Most recently Roger attended the 5th Convention show which he enjoyed immensely; however my lasting memory will be of him sat in the best part of the house for the Chinese State Circus, amazed (as the rest of us were) by the show.
