Newsletter - October 2003

Welcome to October's newsletter. We produce these around every two months to let you know what's happening at CCC. You can also check out our website at www.camcircus.org - photos, flyers, hints and tips and more!

Workshops

Workshops will be in the Drama Centre until at least Sunday 7th December - after that we'll probably run workshops on the 14th and 21st December, then there will be a two week break until the 4th January. If we're not at the Drama Centre we'll probably be at Romsey Mill, further down Mill Road. Please remember to pay at the end of the workshop - it all gets ploughed back into CCC - new equipment & books (by the way, we now have a great new poi-swinging book and some general juggling books in the blue box), shows, special workshops etc. However we are aware that the charges can be a little confusing so we'll probably be revising them soon to make it clearer what you should be paying!

Circus Show in November

Rehearsals for the show in November are going well - we now have a cast of around 12 people who have been working very hard over the last few weeks. If you'd like to get some tickets I'd do it soon - there are only two shows on the 29th November, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and the Drama Centre only holds 120 or so maximum. You can book tickets via the Junction on (01223) 511511. Come along and see what we've been up to! Flyers will be available soon, please help by distributing them round at home, school, work or local venues.

Moscow State Circus

The circus comes to Midsummer Common next week, from Tuesday 14th to Sunday 19th October. Normally we arrange some kind of group discount and trip, but there hasn't been time to do this I'm afraid. However, there is a pile of discount vouchers (half price on any ticket) available at the Sunday workshops, so if you pick one up you can save yourself some money. You can also book tickets by phone on (07030) 150 150. If you're going, perhaps you could send an email to the camcircus@yahoogroups.com email list so CCC people can meet up.

The circus is non-animal and features flying trapeze combined with trampolines, high-wire walking and contortion - probably also some juggling! Hope some of you can make it.

We Need You!

Have you ever wondered who organizes CCC, or where the equipment comes from, or whether anything could be changed or improved? CCC is run by a voluntary management committee and a part-time administrator (currently me - Charlie).

You can join the committee even if you're only a beginner juggler, you can even join if you're under 18 - we usually meet in someone's house every couple of months for an informal chat. Helping to run a voluntary organization like ours is great experience (especially for your C.V.) and it's a chance to make your views know. Do you want us to buy a particular prop? Do you think the workshops are too cheap or expensive? Do you think that we should run the workshop on another day of the week? Joining the committee gives you a chance to make a difference.

Elections for the new committee will be held on Sunday 7th November 2003 - it's not going to be very formal, basically we'll sit down for ten minutes after juggling and make it as quick and easy as possible. All you have to do if you're interested is come along! If you need any more information talk to Charlie.

Circus events during the autumn

More info on circus events at http://www.jugglingdb.com/events - you might have to wait a day or two as it seems to be broken at the moment! I'm sure it will be fixed soon. If you hear about any other circus-related events, please do let us know and we'll pass the word round. If you would like to go to an event and would like to share a car, borrow camping equipment, or even just arrange to meet a familiar face, email the Community Circus list (details at www.yahoogroups.com/camcircus ) .
