Events - Past

Children in Need

Well, this was probably the best fundraising event we've ever done - loads of jugglers, stiltwalkers and unicyclists turned up for two hours on a cold Saturday morning to brighten up Cambridge city centre. For those of you who don't know, we raised over £1400 for Children in Need, our biggest ever total and around twice what we raised last year. Thanks to all who participated; we can all be extremely proud of our achievement.

St.Ives Christmas Lights

Well done to those who went along to St.Ives to participate in the parade and turning on of the Christmas lights; the organisers have telephoned to say that they have received lots of good feedback from the public and even the Mayor of St.Ives. You'll also be glad to know that the event raised £150 for the Community Circus which will go towards the Community Show.

Events - Future

On 9th January 1999 CCC presents Steve Rawlings and friends in Live & Unstable - Steve has chosen Cambridge to premiere his new show which features jugglers, aerialists, wrestlers, magicians and even an opera singer! Some of you may remember Steve from a Cambridge Convention a few years ago - he's a brilliant juggler with a crazy stage personality and always worth seeing. Please tell your family and friends - this is a show that even non-jugglers will enjoy immensely. Tickets are £7.50 / £9.50 and are available from the Mumford Theatre on 01223 352932. You should all receive some flyers shortly - please pass them round at home, at school or at work. CCC is getting a share of the door and it should also be a marvellous publicity opportunity for us - so please help us to fill the theatre. We're also going to organise an afternoon of open juggling that day for any jugglers who come to the show - we'll let you know the details or you can call Simon on 01223 894637 for details.

Workshops

IMPORTANT - Sunday Juggling Workshops, 5-8 p.m.

We will be at Romsey Mill (on Hemingford Road) for the 13th & 20th and there will be no workshop on the 27th December or 3rd of January.Back in the Drama Centre on th 10th January.

Masterclass Workshops

We are now planning some 'Masterclass' workshops in particular skills, taught by experienced circus tutors from the Community Circus and further afield. These will be half-day or longer sessions concentrating on a single skill such as club-passing or trapeze.

The first Masterclass workshop in acrobalance is planned for January 24th 1999, taught by Lee (who teaches Chloe & Simon at Circus Space in London). You will need some acrobalance experience for this workshop (i.e. attending 2 or 3 Friday acrobalance sessions with Chloe & Simon) and you should have a partner to work with. If you're interested please contact Charlie, Chloe or Simon as soon as possible. The workshop will probably be in the afternoon at Romsey Mill and cost £5 per person. You will have to be a member of the Community Circus to join the workshop. Future workshops will include acrobalance and trapeze taught by Simon & Julia from Heir of Insanity and club-passing taught by various members of the Community Circus. We'll let you know when we have confirmed dates for these.

Other news

Community Show 1999

There is no news on the application we have made to the National Lottery for funding for the Community Show next year; however in the meantime we have been searching for ways to reduce the cost of the show and the good news is….

The Community Show is ON!

We'll be running to a very tight budget (this is assuming the Lottery application fails) so costumes, props and music will be recycled from the previous year. If you'd like to be involved then please contact Charlie or any member of the Committee (that's Simon, Mark, Dizzy, Helen, Claire, Sanjay, Rob or Eddie) for more details. For those of you who don't know, the show is devised and rehearsed on weekends during January to March culminating in a weekend of performances at the Drama Centre in mid-March - this year's dates are the weekend of the 20th - 21st March. It's a great opportunity to learn new skills and practise established ones, and to be involved in a large scale show. Last year we even had our local MP come to see the show!

Anyone with any other ideas for sources of funding please see Charlie or anyone on the Management Committee. Perhaps the company you work for (or one of your parents work for) would like to sponsor the Community Circus? Even a little would help.

New Community Circus Website

There is now a brand-new Community Circus website with workshop details, colour pictures from some of our past events, links to tons of circus pages and some past Newsletters. Please take a look if you get the chance - we'd love to know what you think of the site. The address is: www.chaos.org.uk/ccc

Christmas Drinks

Please come down to the Six Bells on Sunday 20th December for a Christmas drink - even if you haven't made it to the workshop for a while we'd love to see you. We'll be walking from Romsey Mill so probably about 8.10 p.m. would be best.
