Rehearsal venuesCambridge Drama Centre, Covent Garden, off Mill Road, Cambridge. Tel. 01223 322748 This has been used for many years
by Cambridge Community Circus and other local groups for
rehearsal and performance. It is (just) high enough for static
trapeze and corde lisse to be rigged and certainly high enough
for juggling, although there are a large number of lighting bars
and theatre lights to be avoided. It is a community space that
also plays host to a large number of small theatrical
performances, workshops and classes. A large crash mat and some
thin acrobatic mats are available for use. Romsey Mill, Hemingford Road, off Mill Road, Cambridge. Tel. 01223 213162 Two rooms are available, one is
very high and large but has no facilities for aerial rigging, the
other is small and not very high. RM is a Christian organisation
and run by friendly, young volunteers and paid staff. A crash mat
and some thin mats are available. There is a cafe on site. Mumford Theatre, Anglia Polytechnic University, East Road, Cambridge. Tel. 01223 352932 This venue seats 250 and has
hosted the 'public shows' of all five Cambridge Juggling
Conventions as well as a special performance by Steve Rawlings of
his show 'Live and Unstable'. It is riggable for aerial skills
and has a large backstage area, full theatre lighting and sound
facilities. Parking close to the venue for loading and unloading
is difficult. Wysing Arts, Fox Road, Bourn, Cambridgeshire. Tel. 01954 718881 An arts centre situated ten miles outside Cambridge. They have a high, heated, riggable gallery space and a lower (although still riggable), colder performance space situated in a converted barn. The centre is surrounded by fields which have been used for outdoor performance in the past (an outdoor power supply is available). Rates are very reasonable and there is even a small amount of accomodation on site for visiting artists. The site is rather isolated.
